Jamyang Losel is a Western monastic with over two decades of study in the Buddhadharma. Under the counsel and encouragement of his teacher Khenpo Kalsang Gyaltsen, he received śrāmaṇera vows in autumn 2014 at age 26 from H.E. Dorjechang Luding Khenchen Jamyang Tenpei Nyima Rinpoche at Ngor Monastery in Manduwala, India, in the Mūlasarvāstivāda tradition. As a disciple of His Holiness Kyabgon Gongma Sakya Trichen Rinpoche and a garland of other precious gurus and teachers, he has engaged in extensive training, study, and practice in the fields of sūtrayana-pāramitāyāna and vajrayāna discourse, including receiving direct transmission on meditational practices and pith instructions.
A graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Jamyang holds a B.S. in Statistics and Economics. He subsequently engaged in graduate studies in Public Health (MPH), but, following the guidance of his teachers and intuition, chose to discontinue in order to pursue monastic ordination. For nearly 12 years, Jamyang served as a public servant with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), working as a statistician and program analyst in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. In 2021, Jamyang retired from secular employment to pursue and devote his time fully to dharmic studies and practice.
As of 2025, he resides in Nepal, where he is a student of the International Buddhist Academy’s “Complete Path” program. He is also enrolled at the Centre for Buddhist Studies at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, where he is pursuing a Master of Arts (MA) in Translation, Textual Interpretation, and Philology.
Jamyang serves on the board of Sachen Foundation at the pleasure of His Holiness the 42nd Kyabgon Gongma Trizin Rinpoche, Ratna Vajra. In this capacity, he serves as chair of The Sachen Archives, translator, and member of the Communications Committee (for which he previously served as chair). He also serves on the board of directors of the Sakya Society under the leadership of His Holiness the 43rd Kyabgon Gongma Trizin Rinpoche, Gyana Vajra.
